As car dealerships clean out their inventory to ready their lots for 2022 models, many people view October through December as a good time of year to get a great deal on a new vehicle.

One thing car buyers should think about is making sure your insurance gives you total protection in the event of you’re in a crash.

Let’s look at Tom, a driver who has an Auto policy with 100,000/300,000 Uninsured Motorist coverage. Tom gets hit by Steve, who let his car insurance lapse two months ago. Tom goes to the hospital and is left with $30,000 in medical bills and lost wages. Fortunately, Tom had Uninsured Motorist Coverage, so his policy covers his losses.

What if Tom hadn’t purchased the additional coverage, though? He would have had to collect the money from the at-fault driver – which is nearly impossible – or suffer a huge financial loss.

It’s estimated that about 13% of all drivers are uninsured. Depending upon what state you live in, the number can be much higher. This is why we recommend Uninsured Motorist Coverage for all drivers.

It protects you and passengers in your car from uninsured drivers. And, if available in your state, also consider Underinsured Motorist coverage matching your Auto policy’s Bodily Injury Liability coverage.

There are many drivers out there who carry Liability coverage with state-mandated limits, which may not be enough to cover damages they cause to you. Underinsured Motorist Coverage can provide you additional protection.
